After I had developed the Global Pop greeting card and journal series I decided to launch the Global Window Gift Card and Journal Series. There was only one problem. I didn’t have any designs. I sat down and did the math and figure out that if I did 2 designs a day for the next 30 days I would have enough to create a full catalog. That is exactly what I did and it was not easy. It was a really good exercise in discipline to keep pushing myself. Some days I did up to 6 different designs trying to capture the two that would be marketable. Not only did I knock out the 60 designs but I also had custom dyes and embossing plates made. Then with the help of my friend Bob Wimer of Wimer Enterprises in Medford Oregon, we put everything together. The finished product was beautiful… and that is when I decided that I did not want to be a production artist for commercial enterprise ventures. Let me say a bit more about Bob and his operation. He had a HUGE print company in Medford. From printing to embossing, dye cutting.. the works. I would show up with an idea and he was gracious enough to listen. Unfortunately though every time I received a quote it was just too expensive. I mean you cannot pay $50 an hour for cutting paper when you are only making $5. Lucky for me Bob was cool, an entrepreneur and business man himself he took me behind the scenes and for $20 I found myself cutting my own journals and papers. Young people need lucky breaks like this. Thanks Bob for helping a young guy out.
